Private tours in Maramures , you simply have to imagine yourself climbing into a horse-drawn time machine and heading back some centuries...

 Private Tour in 8 Days

1st Day

After picking you from the airport or your hotel in Bucharest, we head to Sibiu – the European Capital of Culture in 2007. During our 4 hour drive we'll have a stop at Cozia Monastery - founded in 1387, being the only Byzantine style building preserved in Romania. After you check in to your accommodation in Sibiu, we will have a pleasant walk in the historical city center including: Large Square, Small Square, Liars’ Bridge. A splendid panoramic view is not to be missed from Council Tower. We continue to the over 300 years old Lutheran and Catholic Churches, then the Orthodox Cathedral built in the style of the great cathedral in Constantinople, Saint Sophia. OVERNIGHT in Sibiu

2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Day

On our way to Maramures we'll stop first in Turda for the Salt Mine, one of the most impressive Salt Mines in the world.

In late afternoon we arrive in Breb Village of Maramures. This traditional centuries-old village will be our accommodation base for exploring this beautiful region of Romania in the next 4 days. Our accommodation will be a traditional Wooden House with hand crafted very old wood furniture. Also you shall enjoy traditional meals prepared by locals including one visit to a Shepherd’s place - a moderate amount of walking is involved.

While in Maramures, we shall visit the Wooden Churches included in UNESCO World Heritage list from Budesti, Desesti, Ieud and Barsana. Also, while in Breb we shall visit the Wooden Church – one of the oldest in Romania itself.

Then we have a perspective over the ancient ways of doing things by visiting some of the wooden craft work but also other crafts which can be seen in the villages of Maramures. Except the Wooden Churches, the most impressive are surely the traditional wooden gates, which are a beautiful still existing proof of the traditions kept in this special part of Romania, but also guarding for centuries the entry to the houses.  Some people own a home atelier where they craft their work – mostly out of wood - and are usually very proud and willing to show you the way it is made.

The Merry Cemetery from Sapanta is one of the weird but very funny attractions of entire Romania. People in this area considered death as a beginning and this faith has been reflected on the carvings.

For an authentic experience, we shall go for a ride with the only still working Steam Train in Europe for tourists, called Mocanita. The steam train will carry us for a fantastic ride through some beautiful scenery of Maramures including forests, valleys and remote villages.

6th Day

After the special 4 days in Maramures, we shall get back to Transylvania, but this time to explore more of the Saxon Legacy that Romania has. We shall arrive in medieval city Sighisoara and its citadel – included in UNESCO.  We shall visit also one of the most representative Saxon Villages, the village of Malancrav and its Fortified Church. OVERNIGHT in Sighisoara or Malancrav Saxon Village

7th Day

We drive to medieval city of Brasov which we shall visit on the way back to Bucharest, but also to the Saxon Village of Viscri and probably the most beautiful castle in Romania, Peles. OVERNIGHT in Bucharest

8th Day

Depending on the time of your flight back home, we shall visit the Palace of Parliament, the Village Museum and the old city center area in Bucharest. Then we shall take you to the airport.
